Make stucco yourself

In this article, you will learn how to make stucco yourself, without hiring a craftsman.

Beautiful stucco is mostly known from beautiful old buildings, but nowadays it is also increasingly found in modern houses and apartments. DIY enthusiasts who are considering bringing stucco into their home usually want to beautify their home relatively cheaply and on their own. If you can relate to this line of thought, then you've come to the right place.

We have taken the time to write an article for you to simplify your research on "making stucco yourself". Because you don't have to be a master craftsman to make stucco yourself!

But first things first:

No matter whether it's ceiling stucco, wall stucco or facade stucco, we are advocates of safe and sustainable building materials and therefore always recommend real stucco plaster. This way you can fully enjoy your stucco project and achieve a long-lasting and delightful result.

Once you have decided what kind of stucco you want to install, you should familiarize yourself with the different implementation options. As a DIY enthusiast, you like to take matters into your own hands to realize them. In the following, we therefore assume that you want to install the products yourself, whether bought or self-made.

First step on the way to self-made stucco

Now that you have decided on self-made stucco, you have the following two options for implementation:

  • Buy stucco products and install them yourself
  • Make and install stucco yourself with modeling plaster

It can be said without a doubt that both variants have their charms. The first option, in which you do the installation yourself, is easier and faster. However, you are dependent on standard products here.

Option 2 opens up full creative freedom, but also requires a great deal of craftsmanship. Only very experienced craftsmen should attempt to pull stucco moldings themselves. The production and installation of small stucco elements is different. Here, creative minds can let off steam and achieve a good result at the same time.

Buy products and install stucco yourself

In general, we recommend buying finished stucco products not only for selfish reasons. The (even) production of stucco products is not easy and can only be perfected with routine. Our manufactory has been involved in the production of stucco decoration for years. This is the only way we can deliver the consistently high quality that our customers value so much.

Our wide range offers several different product categories for you. You will find all stucco for ceilings, walls, facades and also stucco that is suitable for creative projects: The construction of a DIY stucco fireplace or the upcycling of cabinets are among them.

By installing stucco yourself, you can bring various styles into your home. In addition to classic, baroque or antique stucco moldings, we also offer modern elements. This gives you the opportunity to combine different styles or to remain true to your taste.

This variant is by far the easiest way to make stucco yourself. After you have decided on stucco products, you can easily refer to our guide on installing stucco ceiling moldings. This explains step-by-step how to install stucco moldings. However, the installation steps can also be extended to other types of products. You will also learn what tools and materials you need to install stucco yourself.

Make and install stucco yourself

If you also feel confident making stucco yourself, then you can get started after buying some materials. But even for making stucco, you should first consider which elements you want to make yourself.

The following stucco elements can be made yourself with a little skill:

  • Smaller stucco elements
  • Plaster casts
  • Stucco statues

You should not make the following stucco yourself:

  • Larger stucco elements
  • Stucco moldings
  • ...

You should not make larger stucco elements and those that are to be installed particularly straight or symmetrically yourself. Something can easily go wrong during production, so you won't enjoy the installation and the result later. A crooked stucco molding, for example, is difficult to mount on a straight edge.

Required materials:

For making plaster stucco, you naturally need modeling plaster from the hardware store or craft shop. The plaster is then processed with spatulas, bowls, knives, brushes and molds. Although plaster is easy to mold, it also dries out relatively quickly. You must therefore wait for the right moment to remove the mold from the plaster.

You can read exactly how to make small stucco ornaments and elements yourself here.
