Suitable for wet and outdoor areas
To make our stucco gypsum products suitable for outdoor use, they are prepared with a special protective varnish. But why is this necessary? It's important to understand that gypsum is, in principle, reusable. Without getting too deep into chemical details, it's possible to make our stucco gypsum moldable again by adding water, so that new stucco gypsum elements can be produced. You could also say that gypsum is not consumed, but merely used.
This leads to the problem that stucco gypsum, without further treatment, cannot be used long-term in places with continuous and high moisture exposure, as it would deteriorate. This problem is solved with our optional protective varnish. This allows you to use our stucco gypsum products outdoors or in other areas with potentially strong and prolonged moisture exposure.
Advantages of the protective varnish – New application areas possible
For a small surcharge of 30% of the un-discounted item value, we will seal your desired item with this special protective varnish. This opens up the following new application areas, among others:
- Terraces (e.g., rosettes, ornaments, etc.)
- Balconies (e.g., skirting boards, flat mouldings, etc.)
- Exterior facades (e.g., ornaments, wall panels, pilasters, columns, etc.)
- House entrances (e.g., columns, pilasters, cornices, etc.)
- Front gardens (e.g., columns, pilasters, etc.)
- Garage driveways (e.g., columns, pilasters, etc.)
- and many more...
One of the biggest misconceptions about gypsum – "Absolutely not in the kitchen and bathroom"
Based on the information learned above, one might conclude that our wall panels, for example, should not be used in the bathroom or kitchen. But that's wrong. There is no permanent and strong moisture exposure from water vapor in these rooms.
Does splashing water cause problems?
The stucco gypsum elements here come into contact with occasional splashing water and temporarily increased humidity, which do not impair stucco gypsum. Caution is only required in commercial wet rooms such as public showers or large kitchens.
Further special features of stucco gypsum
Gypsum has a special characteristic essential for a comfortable indoor climate: it can absorb large amounts of water vapor without the gypsum itself becoming "wet." Furthermore, this stored moisture can be released again during phases of lower humidity, ensuring a comfortable and stable humidity range for humans.
